Higinio and Rosa have only been married for a few months when the Civil War breaks out, representing a serious threat to his life. Helped by his wife, they decide to use a hole dug into their own home as a provisional hiding place. The fear of potential reprisals and the love they feel for one another will condemn them to an imprisonment that will last for more than 30 years.

Two women who have spent their whole lives together must deal with the illness affecting one of them. The sick woman decides not to have treatment and they move into a cabin in the woods to wait for the day that death will come into their lives. The situation sees the resurfacing of the love that time had buried under the routine. Gradually their relationship will strengthen as death bides its time outside the cabin.

Mário, an 8-year-old boy abducted in central Portugal during the spring of 1999, resurfaces 12 years later in a Parisian jail. This period of disappearance hides a terrible secret and all the complexities of this mysterious character.

Romina returns to her family home after having had a child. Separated from the father of Ramón, her son, she takes refuge in the home of her mother, Mónica. There she’s submerged in her mother’s pace, and in her own pace as a daughter, as she tries to figure out what she wants. On a visit to Buenos Aires, Romina teaches German, while trying to return to her single life, to go out at night. She wants to know what she was like before the experience of love for her son. She needs to understand who she is, returning to her origins and rebuilding part of the family history. Directorial debut by the writer, playwright and actress Romina Paula. Presented in Rotterdam Festival’s Bright Future section.

San Bernardo, Chile, 1970. One night on a drinking spree, the young 20 year old, solitary and self-centred Jaime stabs his best friend in what appears to be an outburst of passion. In jail he meets El Potro, an older, respected man he approaches looking for protection, affection and acceptance. Jaime turns into The Prince and discovers love and loyalty as he observes the violent struggle for power in prison. Selected for the Settimana della Critica at the Venice Festival.

On the summit of an imposing mountain, in what looks at first glance like a summer camp, eight guerrilla children going by the name of ‘The Monkeys’ live under the attentive gaze of a paramilitary sergeant. Their sole mission is clear: to take care of the doctor, an American woman they’ve taken hostage. When this mission is threatened, the trust between them will come under suspicion. Pablo is a 40-year-old married father of two wonderful children. A role model and a practicing evangelical Christian, his perfect traditional life begins to crack when he falls in love with a man. Pablo finds his feelings in conflict with beliefs. And his life becomes a hell of repressive intolerance when his family and his church decide to do whatever it takes to cure him, forcing Pablo to suppress his urges through therapy. Presented in the Berlinale’s Panorama section.

French Brittany, 1770. Marianne is an artist commissioned to paint the wedding portrait of Héloise, a young girl who recently left the convent. Héloise doesn’t accept her fate as a married woman and refuses to pose, meaning that Marianne must work in secret. To do it, she pretends to be her lady-in-waiting, so that she can observe the girl by day and paint her at night. A very special relationship will arise between the two women.

Dirty Martini and Tigger!, stars of the New York underground scene, reveal some of the secrets of their provocative and remonstrative forms of artistic expression in New York’s Off-Off Broadway. Meanwhile, they will help us to understand from their everyday intimacy the reasons, the struggles and the keys that keep them in their place as the figures and references of the burlesque revival, more than 20 years after the whole phenomenon exploded in the New York of the 90s.

DOLOR Y GLORIA / PAIN AND GLORY
Dolor y Gloria narrates a series of reunions between Salvador Mallo, a film director in the twilight of his life. Some of them are physical, others are memories: his childhood in the 60s, when he moved with his parents to Paterna, a Valencian town, in search of prosperity, his first desire, his first adult love later in the Madrid of the 80s, the pain of that love falling apart when he was still alive and throbbing, writing as the only therapy for forgetting the unforgettable, the early discovery of cinema and the emptiness, the tremendous emptiness of the impossibility to continue filming. Dolor y Gloria talks about creation, about the difficulty of separating it from life, and about the passions that give it meaning and hope. In the recovery of his past, Salvador will feel the urgent need to narrate it, and in that need he will also find his salvation.

Two diferent families with something in common: a transgender child. Violeta, she is 11 years old, long time ago she decides to dress like a girl and be called by her feminin name. Her parents, very confused at first, they spent a little time before assuming the new identity and today Violeta is a happy girl.
Alan’s story it’s just the opposite: he was victim of bullyng in the high school, the family support wasn’t enough to avoid the tragic end wich shocked his native city.

The camera becomes the client and the exploitation process becomes the spectacle, highlighting the inevitable performativity of power relations. Short film released in the Berlinale Shorts section.
